The DRC in brief
The DRC produced about 75% of the world's cobalt in 2024 and is the second-largest producer of mined copper. Mining accounted for about 95% of exports. Cobalt exports have run under quotas set by ARECOMS since October 2025. The electricity sector has been open to private producers since 2014, and subcontracting to mining and other companies is reserved for Congolese-owned firms by law.
