What does mining marketing in the DRC involve?
The DRC produced about 75% of the world's cobalt in 2024, and mined copper output reached 2.99 million tonnes. Most large mines are run by foreign companies, often in partnership with state companies. Mining marketing in the DRC means finding the producers and projects that fit the client's plans, checking them and reaching the people who decide.
Who are the main counterparties in the DRC's mining sector?
The Ministry of Mines regulates the sector under the Mining Code, Law 007/2002 as amended by Law 18/001 of 2018. The Mining Cadastre (CAMI) keeps the public register of mining titles. Gécamines is the state mining company and holds stakes in many operations. ARECOMS regulates the market for strategic minerals, including cobalt. Producers such as Kamoa-Kakula, Tenke Fungurume and Kamoto buy equipment, reagents and services.
What a foreign company needs to prepare in the DRC
Cobalt exports run under quotas: for 2026 the cap is 87,000 tonnes of cobalt, with a further strategic quota of 9,600 tonnes at the government's discretion. Subcontracting to mines is reserved for Congolese-owned companies, so a foreign supplier usually needs a partner. Sanctions and responsible sourcing checks apply to every party.

Our staff reach the owner, chief executive or procurement lead in English and French, confirm meetings in Lubumbashi, Kolwezi or Kinshasa, prepare the visit plan and introduce local advisers. Due diligence, title checks, legal advice, negotiation, contracts and payments stay with the client.

Does the DRC limit cobalt exports? Yes. ARECOMS sets export quotas, which replaced an export suspension in October 2025. The client should check the current quota before any deal.
Does Vektron check mining titles? We run public-record checks, including the CAMI register, before outreach. Title verification is part of the client's legal due diligence.
