Energy marketing in Zimbabwe
Vektron Merchants finds power producers, utilities and energy projects in Zimbabwe for foreign companies that want to supply or invest there. We confirm the first meetings and plan the visit.
What does energy marketing in Zimbabwe involve?
Zimbabwe's grid rests on the state-owned stations at Hwange and Kariba, and private solar producers are growing beside them. Hwange units 7 and 8, of 335 MW each, were commissioned in August 2023. Energy marketing in Zimbabwe means finding the producers, utilities and large power users that fit the client's plans and reaching the people who decide.
Who are the main counterparties in Zimbabwe's energy sector?
ZESA Holdings is the state power group. Its subsidiary, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), runs the main power stations, and ZETDC runs the grid and sells to customers. The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) licenses generators and keeps a public list of licensed independent power producers, most of them solar.
What a foreign company needs to prepare in Zimbabwe
Investment projects need a ZIDA licence, issued within 7 working days. ZIDA's one-stop centre has desks for ZERA, the tax authority and the central bank. Public contracts require supplier enrolment on the PRAZ electronic procurement system before a bid. Sanctions screening still matters: the Zimbabwe sanctions programme ended in March 2024, but some people and companies are designated under other programmes.
What Vektron does, and what the client keeps
We build a list of producers, utilities and large users that fit the client's offering and check each against public records and sanctions lists. Our staff reach the owner, chief executive or procurement lead, confirm meetings in Harare, prepare the visit plan and introduce local advisers. Licences, power purchase terms, legal advice, negotiation, contracts and payments stay with the client.
