Energy marketing in Namibia
Vektron Merchants finds power buyers, producers and oil and gas operators in Namibia for foreign companies that want to supply or invest there. We confirm the first meetings and plan the visit.
What does energy marketing in Namibia involve?
Namibia's energy market has two parts. In power, the Modified Single Buyer rules of December 2022 let large customers buy directly from eligible producers. Offshore, TotalEnergies is negotiating terms for the Venus discovery, with first oil targeted around 2030 and output of about 160,000 barrels a day expected. Energy marketing in Namibia means finding the buyers, producers and operators that fit the client's plans and reaching the people who decide.
Who are the main counterparties in Namibia's energy sector?
NamPower is the national utility and acts as market operator and system operator. The Electricity Control Board (ECB) regulates the sector, and the government plans to replace it with a new energy regulator. The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy sets policy, and the upstream petroleum unit sits in the Presidency. Offshore operators, mines and other large power users complete the field.
What a foreign company needs to prepare in Namibia
Offshore timelines depend on terms that are not yet settled, so a supplier should plan for a long cycle before contracts are awarded. TotalEnergies runs its Namibian logistics through the port of Lüderitz. On the power side, the client should confirm whether its buyer qualifies to buy directly under the current market rules.
What Vektron does, and what the client keeps
We map the buyers, producers and operators that fit the client's offering and check each against public records and sanctions lists. Our staff reach procurement leads and decision makers, confirm meetings in Windhoek, prepare the visit plan and introduce local advisers. Licences, supply terms, legal advice, negotiation and contracts stay with the client.
